Would the unofficial [community profile] ao3some community, or an official version thereof, go some way towards this community need, or does it need to be an actual forum, not just an LJ/DW comm?

There's a part of me that comes back to the idea that AO3 shouldn't be trying to duplicate community that already exists on other sites, (there's a reason the OTW didn't start a blogging site, too) but I think that's missing the point - the AO3 needs a certain amount of community to survive as a site. As you say, AO3 feels like an archive, not a community - how much of that is intentional and we should keep, and how much is bad and needs changing?
