Could I do more to create fannish interaction in non-Western fandoms on AO3? I totally could. Do I want to? I don't know, because I weigh the time and effort against the return and it's not remotely worth it right now.

I hear so much of this from people I follow who are in game or anime fandoms. For me it is the worst rock/hard place situation about being involved with the archive -- I really want it to be a worthwhile place for us, and I do try to leave people feedback for things when I get a chance, and I would love to have more people doing likewise with me. I would love to have enough of a critical mass of game fans adopting the space that it would start to feel active and engaging, and critical mass is not something anybody can produce alone. But I can't blame the fans who are currently saying it's not worth the effort, because at the end of the day we all have limited time/energy resources. I can definitely understand how for a lot of us it's not worth spending those resources on an archive that may or may not ever meet our needs.

This whole process, it's hard. :s
